This guide will show how to set up Print Deploy for PaperCut MF
What is Print Deploy
Print Deploy is a print queue deployment tool that gets the right printer drivers and print queues to the right person in the right location, effectively.
Sync process : AD Groups > Groups in PaperCut MF > Print Deploy Zone
AD Groups should be synced to PaperCut MF (https://print.collingwood.org:9192/admin)
- How to sync ? Synchronization cycle is once a day or manually if required.
- Go to Groups > Click Add/Remove groups under Actions > Add it and click Apply
- Go to Options > User/Group Sync > Select Gruops that you want to add
Where is the AD groups for Print Deploy ?
- ad.collingwood.org/Collingwood/Security Groups/Users/Printers/Morven or Wentworth
- Please update all AD groups members in the OU based on department or Grade
- If you wanted to add more groups, move it from Printers OU to Morven or Wentworth
- You can create new groups in Morven or Wentworth OU. Add Description with the driver model
- Go to Groups on Papercut MF admin (https://print.collingwood.org:9192/admin) to see the current groups
How to Clone - Use Papercut's cloner app to copy print queues from a reference computer.
- Print queues are created on a reference computer.
Always check that you can print from the reference computer using the print queues you set up before cloning them into Print Deploy. That includes testing default settings, like grayscale and duplex, and capabilities, like stapling and hole punching. - You should remove unnecessary printers and add the printers queue before cloning
Windows - Go to CWPS1 and add the print queue and then test out.
macOS - Print driver should be installed first if required.
LPD
- Go to Printers & Scanners
- Select IP > Address is the printer IP address > Protocol is LPD or AirPrint (Brothers or Some HP Printers)> Queue leave blank> Name is the same as queue (It should be the same as Windows queue)
Please make sure the proper driver name show in Use:
ex.
CUPs - optional tool
- Open Terminal and type cupsctl WebInterface=yes
- Go to http://localhost:631/printers/?
- Go to Administration > Click Add Print > Select LPD/LPR Host or Printer next to Other Network Printers > Click Continue > Connection: lpd://10.10.0.127/queue > Name: put the same name as queue > Click Continue > Select PPD File > /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/printer driver name.gz > Add Printer
- If you can print the testing doc, you're ready to clone the printer queue. - The print queues are cloned into Print Deploy
Go to Papercut MF > Enable Printing > click + next to the Print queues on the right.
Download the cloner tool - Follow the instruction. If it is uploaded successfully, you will see the queue under Print queues.
- Refresh the Print queues after uploading the queues. Please check the detail information.
Configure - Print Deploy is set up so users will get the correct print queue(s)
- The print queues are then connected to the zones, so users in different zones will get to use the specific printers are connected to each zone. That’s how you control which users get to use which printers.
- Click + Add zone > Example
Zone name : Visual Art
Display name : Visual Art
Filters > IP range (default), User groups (AD groups) - M-Art_Classroom and M-PW_Art_Colour
Click Save - Select the Groups and add Windows and Mac printer queues
- If you find more better way to setup the zone, please remove previous zone and create the new one.
(ex. Wentworth case, not Room number, Going with Grade)
Deploy - A client is installed on users’ computers so they can access the print queues
- Windows Computers
The Papercut Deploy application will be installed by PDQ or SCCM, but if you need to install it manually, go to PDQ Deploy and find Papercut Print Deploy package and use Deploy button on the top or open Software Center and click Papercut Print Deploy app to install or go to \\m-endpointcm\m_sources$\Software\MPapercut and use msi file. - macOS - The Papercut Deploy application will be installed by Meraki or Endpoint Manager (Intune), but if you need to install it manually, go to \\m-endpointcm\m_sources$\Software\MPapercut and use the dmg installation file.
User Experience
Windows Users - Once it is installed, Printer will be mapping automatically. (don't need to sign in)
Mac Users - need to sign in
once they sign in, Printer will be installed automatically
